Advertising agencies still best embody the blend of creativity & strategy marketers need to succeed. I keenly follow those that bring something new to an old profession (incl. Droga5, Mother & Grey).
For a long time, I've believed effective written communication is a vital ingredient to marketing success. To improve my own, I look to Kazuo Ishiguro, Zadie Smith, Malcom Gladwell and others.
An early love of mine, I believe the art of film making is the most effective way of communication emotion - and has a lot to teach marketers. I particularly enjoy the works of David Lynch & Steven Spielberg.
At the core of marketing is a responsibility to steward sustainable company growth; a responsibility entrepreneurs share. The many I've met over my career are still a significant source of inspiration to me.
I have been fortunate to work across a wide variety of industries, but the challenges and opportunities in the insight, media and technology sectors are those that fascinate me the most.
