Advertising agencies still best embody the blend of creativity & strategy marketers need to succeed. I keenly follow those that bring something new to an old profession (incl. Droga5, Mother & Grey).

CREATIVE

For a long time, I've believed effective written communication is a vital ingredient to marketing success. To improve my own, I look to Kazuo Ishiguro, Zadie Smith, Malcom Gladwell and others.
FILMAKERS

An early love of mine, I believe the art of film making is the most effective way of communication emotion - and has a lot to teach marketers. I particularly enjoy the works of David Lynch & Steven Spielberg.

WHAT DRIVES ME
WHO I WORK WITH
As it turns out, nothing will make you realise faster that you have very few photos of yourself that communicate who you are than putting together a website. I struggled for a while before settling on this one, because summing up what I stand for and what drives me is, surprisingly, a pretty difficult task. But, if I am going to attempt it, here goes...
I didn't always want to be a marketer. In fact, throughout my teen years I wanted to direct films. But a brush with the Young Enterprise project - changed that for me. My creativity and (at the time, modest) graphic design skills meant taking on a marketing role was the best fit for me. And, in the following year, I guess I fell in love with the craft - blending creativity with strategy to create purpose.
Since then, I haven't looked back. Though I have found myself in a profession which doesn't always align with my principles, I always ensure that my work does. So, what are those principles?
1. Marketing is about bringing the right product to the right market.
2. Sustainable growth is the best kind of growth (and the only type I'll pursue).
3. Companies should prioritise people, planet and profit in that order.
PS. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy table-top RPGs, writing fiction, geek culture, and travelling as much of the world as possible (very Millennial of me, I know).
